I opened a book on my shelf and picked noun at random. I chose "eyes," which was the first noun I saw. I brainstormed everything I could think of related to eyes. My list of words was long, but then I got to "sad eyes," "puppy eyes" and then "eyes…

for this exercise, I took a book off my shelf entitled "Historical Whodunits"....I opened to a random page and looked for a noun: I found the words eyes, streets, cloak and demons. (This exercise is for a drawing, but I'm putting those words in my…

Often you want to be creative, but the old "What should I draw?" question comes to mind. Aside from checking this forum and doing one of the exercises or prompts, you can also look around your studio/bedroom/office for inspiration. EXERCISE: Open u…

Yep, I did it. I had a photo of a Nash metropolitan up on the screen and sketched it into my daily sketchbook. I think my pen and paper art looks very old style cartoony. I discovered I like the fine point sharpies in my little sketchbook MUCH bett…

This was not my "showing up" sketch, but I did do it in my little everyday sketchbook! I like Scott Kurtz's twitter background with one of his characters as the twitter fail whale. I thought I'd do the same for Witchy.

This is the sketch of Tina I did. When I scanned it in, I thought it was for 'Day 3' so it's misnamed. I'm keeping a tiny sketchbook just for the every day "show up" sketching.

Books from my bookshelf

These are the ones from around my desk. I'll add more from the big book shelf when I get exercises from them!

Stimuli, Exercise 11/30/09

I opened a book on my shelf and picked noun at random. I chose "eyes," which was the first noun I saw.

I brainstormed everything I could think of related to eyes. My list of words was long, but then I got to "sad eyes," "puppy eyes" and then "eyes as big as saucers..." which described a dog in a fairytale I had in a book when I was a little kid.

I drew the dog for my daily sketch and my exercise this week:

Showing up, Day 6

Almost didn't make it today! So I made myself fill the little page of the little sketchbook. Can you see that a scholar has a desk in a tower room and that he's spilled some ink on his paper?

Tomorrow is the last day of my "showing up" challenge.. but I will continue to make daily sketches until the little sketchbook is filled.

Showing Up, Day 5

Yep, I did it. I had a photo of a Nash metropolitan up on the screen and sketched it into my daily sketchbook. I think my pen and paper art looks very old style cartoony.

I discovered I like the fine point sharpies in my little sketchbook MUCH better than ball point, which tends to skip on this rough paper.
